Miguel Rosales is the president and principal designer of Rosales +. His transformative work has redefined bridge design as structural art. With over thirty-five years of expertise, he has crafted iconic bridges that stand as testaments to both functionality and aesthetic beauty, making a significant impact in the U.S. and around the world.
Renowned for his focus on bridge aesthetics and design, Miguel earned a licentiate degree in architecture from Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala in 1985, followed by a master’s degree in architecture studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1987. His educational background laid the foundation for a career dedicated to innovation in bridge design.
Throughout his career, Miguel has received grants from prestigious organizations such as the NEA, AIA/AAF, and MIT, enabling him to conduct groundbreaking research in bridge and infrastructure design. His work has garnered numerous national and international awards, underscoring his ability to harmonize technical precision with artistic expression. Notable projects include the Zakim, Liberty and Appleton bridges which exemplify his commitment to creating cost-effective, innovative, and visually outstanding bridges that resonate and inspire.
In his book, Bridges as Structural Art, he showcases twenty-five of his transformative bridges, each a source of pride for the communities in which they have been built and a celebration of the art of bridge design. Through these structures, Miguel has not only influenced architectural and engineering practices globally but has also fostered a deeper appreciation for the role of bridges in our urban landscapes.
