Accessibility at AIA24

AIA is building a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion within our profession, firms, and chapters. These efforts extend to the events that we host, because ensuring AIA24 is an inclusive, accessible experience for all who attend is one of our top priorities.


How we’re making AIA24 an experience for everyone

This guide includes specific details about available accommodations and how to request them.

Available accommodations

As a standard practice, you can expect accommodations for in-person accessibility, nursing individuals, dietary requirements, and more. You do not need to request the following accommodations.

  • Captioning in education sessions (does not include Expo-credit sessions)
  • Communication Assisted Realtime Translation (CART) interpretation during daily keynotes
  • Designated accessible seating in keynotes and session rooms
  • An accessible entrance to the convention center
  • Accessible restrooms across the convention center
  • Gender-neutral restrooms across the convention center
  • Braille signage throughout the convention center
  • A quiet room
  • Parent/infant room with a private nursing space
  • Private Mamava lactation pod located within the convention center

The Walter E. Washington Convention Center welcomes service animals in all areas of the convention center. It is also a Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) venue.

Accommodations you can request

  • American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters
  • Electric scooter rental for usage at the convention center
  • Wheelchair-accessible buses for bus tours (except for tours noted as not wheelchair accessible) and hotel shuttles.
  • Stage ramps for speakers
  • Food allergy accommodations upon request during the registration process
