Taal Safdie is a Founding Partner of Safdie Rabines Architects, a San Diego-based architecture, interiors, and urban design firm recognized for its thoughtful, context-driven approach. Taal established the firm with her husband and partner, Ricardo Rabines, in 1993. She holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania Weitzman School of Design, where the two met. Their hands-on involvement in every project has shaped the firm’s creative direction for more than three decades, with designs that integrate nature into people’s daily lives and provide strong connections to surrounding landscapes, blurring the boundaries between structure and environment.
Safdie Rabines Architects’ portfolio spans civic, institutional, commercial, and infrastructure projects, alongside diverse residential work comprised of single-family homes, student housing, mixed-use communities, and master plans. Notable projects include the oceanfront Seaside Forum conference center for Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego; the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook in Los Angeles; UCLA’s Court of Sciences Student Center; the Imperial County Criminal Courthouse in El Centro, California; and the North City Master Plan, a premier downtown district in San Diego’s North County region.
