Keith York

Author and editor Keith York is a native San Diegan focused on unveiling the unique history of modern art and architecture. The founder of modernsandiego.com, an online resource since 2004, York has collated thousands of documents, images and interviews to tell the story of the region’s modernist history. He can be found speaking to audiences on the topic across Southern California. York, a licensed real estate professional, supports buyers and sellers of important, unique and historic homes across San Diego County.

Following his restoration of Craig Ellwood’s Residence for Mr. & Mrs. Chas. Bobertz (1953) York restored Wright-apprentice Sim Bruce Richards’ personal residence. Having made both homes widely available to tours, visitors and photographers alike have expressed that these exemplify the broader narrative on regional modernism.

To date, York has published The Distinct Modernism of San Diego (2026), Craig Ellwood: Life is a Bottomless Barrel (2026), Craig Ellwood: Remembering the Thin Man (2025), Mosher Drew: The First 75 Years (2025), Craig Ellwood: Furniture (2024) in addition to The Sensuous Environment: Sim Bruce Richards Architect (2023) as well as catalogs for exhibitions he has curated: Julius Shulman: Modern San Diego; Julius Shulman: Modern La Jolla; and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Legacy in San Diego: The Taliesin Apprentices.
