Joan Gand is a preservationist and leading advocate for Mid-Century Modern architecture, based in La Jolla and Palm Springs. She grew up in the Chicago area, surrounded by the influential work of Frank Lloyd Wright and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, which helped shape her lifelong passion for modern design. As editor of Julius Shulman: Chicago Mid-Century Modernism, she brings a deep understanding of modernist design and its cultural context to her work. She currently chairs the Palm Springs Modern Committee Education Committee and the La Jolla Modernism Weekend, where she develops and leads tours, lectures, and educational programs.
