David Altenhofen, AIA is a Senior Technical Director at RWDI, a consulting firm specializing in assisting owners, architects and builders in the delivery of durable and highly performing building tuned to their unique environment. David Altenhofen advances the resiliency and energy efficiency of the built environment by integrating high-performance enclosure systems into award-winning architecture. His leadership and knowledge-sharing spurs collaborators and elevates colleagues across the country and beyond.

Mr. Altenhofen is active in the AIA and the broader architectural community at several levels, focusing primarily on reinforcing the architect’s role in building science and tectonic integrated design. Mr. Altenhofen is widely published and lectures frequently at local, national and international events.

Over the last forty years of practice, David has propelled the application of building science in practice and the architectural community; to deliver healthier, more energy efficient, more durable and higher value buildings. He has a national reputation as an expert on issues related to building enclosures, called upon frequently to contribute his expertise. Working alongside some exemplary architects, he has delivered numerous award-winning, high-performance projects. He has contributed for decades to the AIA and a range of related professional organizations expand the industries knowledge base concerning air control, moisture management, thermal transfer, sustainability, energy efficiency, resiliency, net zero design, durability, and advanced modeling. His presentation and mentoring techniques allow architects to understand and apply the fundamental physics behind rainsreens, air barriers, unitized facades, green roofs/walls, off-site construction and more.
