Daniel Bass is the Building Science Disaster Support Program Manager in the Building Science Branch. The Building Science Branch is organized under Resilience in the Planning, Safety, & Building Science Division (PSBSD), Risk Analysis, Planning, and Information Directorate (RAPID). Its mission is to: Lead the advancement of state-of-the-art design and construction to create safer communities.
Mr. Bass joined the Building Science Branch in February of 2012. Mr. Bass was recruited by FEMA in 2006, following Hurricane Katrina and worked extensively in the recovery efforts along the Gulf Coast for several years, as well as numerous other hurricanes, flood, tornado and wildfire disasters around the United States and its territories. Mr. Bass has overseen all Mitigation Assessment Team (MAT) work since Super Storm Sandy. Mr. Bass is a recognized subject matter expert in disaster resistant design and construction, FEMA 361 Safe Rooms, flood and wind mitigation measures for structures and floodplain management. He has delivered numerous presentations, trainings and workshops to design professionals, community officials, and emergency managers and at state, national and international professional conferences. Mr. Bass is a Licensed Professional Architect in the State of Tennessee and is a Certified Floodplain Manager. He practiced Architecture in the private sector for more than 25 years prior to joining FEMA. Mr. Bass studied Architecture at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
