Breaking Cycles: Re-envisioning a Health, Housing, & Justice Continuum

The University of Hawaiʻi Community Design Center's Breaking Cycles project convened community members, various stakeholders, and subject matter experts to explore new approaches to corrections, diversion, and reentry. The mission: Address cycles of substance abuse, mental health needs, houselessness, joblessness, trauma, and incarceration.

The collaboration with the State of Hawai'i Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Governor's Office, Oversight Commission, and community partners included 120 talk-stories, 18 listening site visits, eight co-design workshops, three speaker symposia, and five community of practice meetings. Join us to learn about this comprehensive effort to develop recommendations for systems reform and planning and design.
