Revel in a guided walk across a mile-long stretch of vibrant mixed-use destinations along the Potomac River. You'll explore the historic Fish Market and Phase I through to the recently completed Phase II at Waterfront Park.

This tour will look at the complete integration of the resilient waterside and landside design, including the unique technical and approval challenges that resulted in a one-of-a-kind destination for locals and visitors alike.

Learning Objectives

  1. Explore how successful urban environments are enhanced as a curated public realm connected with piers and parks.
  2. Learn about the design of the landside architecture forms and strategies, including Amaris D.C., the Wharf's "leaning" building.
  3. Understand technical challenges residing below grade, including seawall sequencing, flood protection, vibration isolation, and sound mitigation.
  4. Discuss the regulatory and permitting challenges of developing a sustainable waterfront.
