Known for his preservation advocacy and for his architecture and historic preservation with Wolf Architects, Gary is past president of Docomomo/New England. His projects have appeared in Architect, American School + University, and the book LEEDING the Way: Domestic Architecture for the Future. The Boston Society of Architects, the Chicago Athenaeum, and Progressive Architecture have recognized his designs.
Gary has written for Architectural Review, the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, and the books Old and New Architecture: Design Relationship and Stirling + Wilford: American Buildings. He has presented papers at the Philadelphia Athenaeum and the University of Virginia, and for the Society for Commercial Archaeology. Currently he is writing a book of American building stories.
Gary’s M. Arch. is from Princeton University, his M. Arch. History from the University of Virginia, and his B. A. from Cornell University. He has taught at Harvard and Wentworth Institute of Technology.
