Gina Kope

Gina Kope, S.E. is an Associate Principal and Sustainability Lead at Holmes US in San Francisco, CA, with over 10 years of experience working on a diverse set of projects, including Microsoft’s Silicon Valley Campus, the largest mass timber structure in North America during the time of construction, amassing ~350,000 SF of CLT. This 5-year long project in her earlier years of engineering introduced her to mass timber alongside emerging low carbon materials and has been a springboard for her continued involvement around sustainable strategies in structural design. As a leader within the residential studio of Holmes US, Gina is currently servicing projects that are pushing the boundaries by utilizing mass timber for expansive estates and voluntarily complying with Calgreen global warming potential limits.

Gina has been an active member of SEAONC over the years, serving as the Co-Chair for SEAONC's Sustainable Design Committee from 2019 – 2022. Within her local chapter she's organized the collection and analysis of concrete mix design data to help a local Bay Area jurisdiction implement benchmark values for the first Low Carbon Concrete Code. This research has since informed the development and adoption of the current Calgreen Code. She’s also been involved in facilitating a collaboration effort between SEAONC SDC and SE2050 to build out the organization’s online resources. As past co-chair of the SEAONC Sustainable Design Committee, Gina’s interest in sustainability developed into a passion for helping engineers recognize the impacts of the built environment. Gina continues to engage in outreach to educate professionals on how they can reduce their carbon footprint in their every-day practice as a resident champion for the sustainable group within Holmes, a signatory of SE2050.
