Alina Osnaga, Assoc. AIA, NOMA, TiD-S, is a Romanian-American architectural designer and researcher working at the intersection of architecture and the empirical sciences. With a transdisciplinary background in physics, neuroscience applied to architecture, and architecture, her work centers on advancing human health and well-being in the built environment.
An award-winning researcher and recipient of the King I Medal for Excellence in Architectural and Environmental Design Research, Alina’s work has been disseminated through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at international conferences including EDRA, Planetree, IEEE, and ENAH’s Hospital and the City. Her research has also been featured in Bloomberg CityLab and highlighted in multiple professional podcasts.
Alina collaborates with the Trauma-Informed Design Society and serves on the Board of EDRA. She is a Director for AIA Detroit and Co-Chair of the AIA Detroit Practice Task Force. Nationally, she is a graduate of the 2025 AIA Next to Lead cohort, a 2025 AAH Colleague-to-Colleague mentee, a member of the AIA National Council of Ethics, and serves on NAAB accreditation teams.
She holds certifications in Research Methods from Stanford University, Human-Centered Design through the Moving Boundaries program, and training through the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture (ANFA). Passionate about systems-level change, Alina advocates for embedding evidence-based, culturally grounded, and trauma-informed approaches into design education and public policy to advance a more resilient and inclusive built environment.
