Senator Tim Kearney has represented Pennsylvania’s 26th District in eastern Delaware County since 2019, bringing to the Senate a career shaped by decades of architectural practice, community leadership, and public service. As the only architect serving in the Pennsylvania Senate—and a designer with more than 35 years of experience—he applies a long‑term, people‑centered perspective to building sustainable, connected communities.
Tim has consistently championed policies that strengthen localities and improve quality of life, including equitable access to public education, safe neighborhoods, resilient public health systems, clean energy, environmental stewardship, and well‑funded transportation networks that connect residents to opportunity. His architectural background reinforces these priorities, grounding his legislative work in thoughtful planning, sustainable design, and community‑focused development.
Before entering public office, Tim spent 16 years with Venturi, Scott Brown and Associates, an internationally recognized architecture and planning firm. After moving to Swarthmore, he and his wife, Claudia, founded CuetoKEARNEY Architects, a five‑person studio known for sustainable design and higher‑education projects for institutions such as Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania, Swarthmore College, Cheyney University, and Widener University.
Tim’s public service began locally. He served 11 years on the Swarthmore Planning Commission, including seven as Chair, and was elected to two terms as Mayor, focusing on environmental initiatives and pedestrian‑friendly community planning.
In the Senate, Tim serves as Democratic Chair of the Institutional Sustainability & Innovation Committee and sits on the Appropriations, Education, Local Government, and Transportation Committees. He also serves on statewide boards and commissions and participates in numerous caucuses spanning education, public safety, health, environment, and community issues.
The son of a teacher, Tim is a strong advocate for quality public education. He maintains district offices in Media and Upper Darby and lives in Swarthmore with his wife, Claudia, and their rescue dog, Chorizo. They have two grown children.
