Taruna Gupta, NOMA, Associate AIA is an architectural designer, community advocate, and leader advancing equity through design. Her work spans healthcare, education, and community-centered projects, with a consistent focus on using architecture as a catalyst for social impact, inclusivity, and innovation.

At HGA, Taruna works in the Arts, Community, and Education studio, contributing across programming, space planning, and project management. She is actively engaged in firm-wide initiatives, including Holistic Design, the Equity Council, and serves as Co-Chair of the BIPOC Connections ERG.

Taruna is the Co-Founder and President of Defining Humanity, a design-based nonprofit bringing design to marginalized communities globally. Her leadership has supported impactful initiatives such as a 3D-printed school campus in Madagascar, prefabricated housing solutions for unhoused populations, and the National Resource Center for First Repair, a Chicago-based global reparations nonprofit.

A committed advocate for diversity in the profession, Taruna serves as President of the Wisconsin chapter of NOMA and a long-time Board Member of Women in Design Milwaukee. She has led workshops, mentorship programs, and community outreach efforts that create pathways for women and underrepresented professionals in architecture. She is also deeply involved in Project Pipeline, supporting early exposure to architecture for BIPOC youth building long-term pathways into the profession.

She is actively involved in mentorship programs at architecture schools locally and globally and mentors emerging professionals through organizations such as Immigrant Architects Coalition (IAC) and American Indian Women in Architecture (AIWA).

With a Master of Architecture from Kansas State University and professional experience across India, Italy, France, and the United States, Taruna brings a global, multicultural perspective to her practice.
