Robert Jonah Margarella, AIA, is the Director of Architecture at Mason & Hanger and an architect with more than 30 years of experience in design, construction, and building code compliance across public and private sector projects. His work focuses on complex and highly regulated environments, where he provides leadership in code interpretation, regulatory coordination, and multi-disciplinary coordination.
Appointed by the Governor of Virginia in 2021 to the State Building Code Technical Review Board, Jonah contributes technical expertise and policy insight to the development and interpretation of building regulations. He also serves on the AIA National Codes and Standards Committee and is an ICC-Certified Commercial Building Plans Examiner.
A strong advocate for code literacy, Jonah emphasizes the essential role building codes play in advancing safe, resilient, and durable buildings, and regularly engages with the profession through national forums, professional outreach, and education.
