This session will focus on the minimum requirements for alterations and additions to existing buildings regarding accessibility and compliance with the 2024 International Existing Building Code and ICC A117.1-2017 Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities.
The intent of these provisions is to improve access to buildings for people with physical, visual, and/or hearing impairments. Join us to participate in activities that involve questions and answers, discussion and case study, and performing parts individually and in groups.
Learning Objectives
- Recognize which accessibility requirements a building official can enforce.
- Determine the extent to which accessibility code provisions apply to the alteration or change of occupancy of an existing building.
- Discuss the basis for the technical requirements set forth in the referenced standard.
- Explore scoping and technical requirements for exterior accessible routes, accessible entrances, interior accessible routes, building features and facilities, special occupancies, and dwelling and sleeping units.
