Looking to get licensed? This immersive workshop introduces core building systems concepts through hands-on demonstrations and a guided tour of Petco Park, located across the street from the convention center. Participants will explore compression-refrigeration loops, power distribution, electrical circuits, building enclosures, ventilation, air-handling units, structures, and materials and methods of construction. The experience includes a behind-the-scenes walking tour of stadium mechanical spaces and informal peer discussion about exam preparation and study strategies.
Learning Objectives
- Identify HVAC systems, building circuits, transformers, breakers, and switches commonly used in contemporary buildings.
- Apply knowledge of individual systems to design buildings that are more thermally comfortable, quieter, or energy-efficient.
- Explain the role of each layer of the building enclosure and articulate envelope concepts clearly to consultants and clients.
- Recognize foundational building systems concepts that appear across multiple ARE divisions.
