Modern-day building enclosures are complex assemblies of multiple systems coming together to produce high-performing results. Many green building standards and newer versions of energy code are requiring some type of building enclosure commissioning (BECx).
As the design team's leader, the architect needs a basic grasp of when and how to engage an enclosure consultant as well as what type of service and support this individual provides at various stages of the design and construction process. This session will offer an overview of BECx, the possible roles and responsibilities of BECx professionals, and how to work with them to optimize project outcomes.
Learning Objectives
- Learn the basics of what BECx is and when it may be required.
- Discuss when to engage a BECx agent as well as their relationship with the design team, construction team, testing agencies, and other project stakeholders across all project phases.
- Gain insight into the scalability of enclosure commissioning, what project factors determine commissioning needs, and the various types of testing, observations, and reports that may be involved.
- Learn how to develop a scope of work for enclosure commissioning and evaluate risks and benefits of various activities.
