Genius of Biome: California Coast Workshop

What can designers learn from the resiliency and adaptability of nature? Drawing inspiration from the most diverse region in the United States, Genius of Biome: California Coast is an interdisciplinary research project that explores how lessons from the region's intersecting biomes can inform the design of the built environment across façades, structure, water management, and dynamic landscapes.

This interactive biomimicry workshop will facilitate a hands-on biomimicry design process. Discover how to apply the biological intelligence from the Genius of Biome: California Coast project to create adaptive and scalable strategies to address resilience in the built environment and achieve nature-positive impact.

Learning Objectives

  1. Examine the concepts, processes, and real-world applications of biomimicry in the built environment.
  2. Explore four resilience challenges and how natural systems adaptations are relevant to design solutions for the built environment.
  3. Learn how to design replicable strategies for the built environment using champion species that demonstrate a solution strategy tied to the ecosystem realities of the place.
  4. Use biomimicry as a framework for team collaboration.
