Winning Words: Proposal Writing for Impact

Professional programs by their nature teach architects how to speak to other architects. Then, once an architect starts practicing, the language of architecture takes very specific forms, such as project or process descriptions for winning work, project or process descriptions for winning awards, and legal language for proposals, negotiations, and contracts. None of these narrative forms, however, expand understanding of the meaning and value of architects and their work to non-architect audiences. Filling that gap will be the focus of this enlightening session.

Learning Objectives

  1. Learn how to recognize and eliminate jargon in professional communications to ensure your proposals present a unique voice to potential clients.
  2. Strengthen your ability to shape and refine powerful stories on your firm, projects, and services to non-architect audiences.
  3. Analyze written materials to uncover instances of bias, wordiness, redundancy, and poor word choice.
  4. Discover how to identify and correct common writing mistakes in your communications.
