Going All Electric: Creating a Catalyst for Campus Decarbonization

The new Vagelos Innovation The new Vagelos Innovation Laboratories at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons align with Columbia University's Sustainability Plan, which targets net-zero emissions through responsible design and construction by 2050. To fulfill this commitment, the Vagelos Innovation Labs team engaged in an integrated design process and developed a strategic framework during pre-design. Balancing the need to expand research facilities with rigorous sustainability standards, this initiative led to New York City's first all-electric lab, paving the way for campus-wide decarbonization. Join us for this session to learn why this facility represents a breakthrough in eliminating on-site fossil fuels.

Learning Objectives

  1. Explore how to use your next project to kickstart your campus decarbonization plan.
  2. Learn how to establish a road map pre-design to maximize decarbonization.
  3. Find out how to develop and fulfill criteria for an all-electric building.
  4. Discover what it takes to embody the sustainability mission into a building's design.
