ET103 – Conflict Zones: Community Change in the D.C. Region

As conflict and mistrust arise in the wake of sweeping community change, effective problem-solving demands leadership skills and an understanding of community change dynamics.

This event will lead you through the Metro to key development conflict zones in the D.C. region. You'll tour sites and meet with key community activists and representatives to hear their narratives about development battles. In addition, you'll gain a new understanding of community change and the tools needed to support the healthy development of the region.

The tour will inform a dialogue on the tools, promising practices, and policies needed to support successful community change processes.

Learning Objectives

  1. Engage on a central issue relevant to communities everywhere by using the D.C. region as a focal point and learning lab.
  2. Gain exposure to community change dynamics happening across the region in a tangible way by experiencing the physical context of that change.
  3. Join a dialogue with community activists about change and its consequences and hear how it's experienced on the ground in a tangible setting.
  4. Collaborate with civic leaders and activists to contribute ideas and insights to potential new practices, policies, and community solutions.
