ET211 – Interactive ADA Tour: Where the Barrier-Free Code Was Born

Additional fee, registration required.

Applying accessibility codes can be tricky. Seeing them implemented in-person and having a discussion is a valuable way to deepen your understanding and best practices for implementation.

Through the lens of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), this walking/rolling tour will showcase common accessibility requirements, point out areas of non-compliance, and feature a discussion of design solutions. The interactive offering will engage you in robust conversation and debate throughout the tour.

This is a walking tour.

Learning Objectives

  1. Gain insights into accessibility in the field, not just from the code book.
  2. See firsthand violations in the built environment and understand why accessibility standards are in place and how they benefit everyone, not just persons with disabilities.
  3. Analyze the most common mistakes to prevent them on your own future projects.
  4. Recognize the challenges in interpretation with the accessibility standards.
